TOTS Sleep Log Regulations (Infants)

Quick reference summary. Always confirm against current California regulations and licensing updates.

  1. Infants must sleep on their backs. Exception only with written physician instruction.
  2. Cribs must be empty. No loose items, blankets, toys, bumpers, or positioners. Use firm mattress + fitted sheet only.
  3. Swaddling is not allowed while infants are in care.
  4. Pacifiers: allowed only when unattached and specific to that infant.
  5. No sleeping in equipment: not in swings, car seats, bouncers, strollers, couches, or beds.
  6. 15-minute checks: perform and document checks; watch for breathing issues, overheating, or distress.
  7. Continuous supervision: stay close enough to hear infants; monitors do not replace supervision.
  8. Infant Sleeping Plan (LIC 9227): maintain and update as required.
