TOTS Sleep Log Regulations (Infants)
Quick reference summary. Always confirm against current California regulations and licensing updates.
- Infants must sleep on their backs. Exception only with written physician instruction.
- Cribs must be empty. No loose items, blankets, toys, bumpers, or positioners. Use firm mattress + fitted sheet only.
- Swaddling is not allowed while infants are in care.
- Pacifiers: allowed only when unattached and specific to that infant.
- No sleeping in equipment: not in swings, car seats, bouncers, strollers, couches, or beds.
- 15-minute checks: perform and document checks; watch for breathing issues, overheating, or distress.
- Continuous supervision: stay close enough to hear infants; monitors do not replace supervision.
- Infant Sleeping Plan (LIC 9227): maintain and update as required.
